WS 2008 Frequently Asked Questions
The Women’s Summit 2008 Malaysia themed ‘Teaming Up to Make a Difference” will be held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre is now open for registration.
You simply need to register online. Alternatively, registration forms may be faxed to 03-79546849. We are encouraging corporations to show their support for this women@work initiative by covering the conference fees for their staff or contributing more opportunities for people to participate.
Here are some answers to some Frequently Asked Questions.
1. How much does it cost to attend the Summit?
Historically, the Summit’s have been fully-funded by the Government as part of its commitment to supporting women in the workplace. However, this year, in view of severe budgetary cuts, it has become necessary to seek additional financial assistance for the conference costs. Fortunately, with the generosity of our supporters in the corporate sector, it has been possible to add to the initial allocation of funding by government. We are pleased to be able to offer scholarships or partial scholarships to cover the participation of over 650 registrants. As further pledges are made, we expect to offer more and more scholarships or partial scholarships so that all those attending the Summit this year would be able to enjoy some form of financial support to do so.
Nevertheless, all participants will need to register and apply for a scholarship. This is because registration is limited to 1,000 participants. Early registrants stand a better chance of assuring a place. We will need to process all applications to ensure that there is a good balance of representation from all different employment sectors, NGOs, government and SMEs, as well as those that are self employed.
Payment of fees by corporations pledging their support should be made by 10 August 2008 through Paypal. Cheques and money orders will also be received.
2. Why do I need to register? Can’t I just turn up?
It will not be possible to accommodate more than 1,000 participants due to space and budget constraints. Those who attend without registering may have to be turned away. In addition, registered participants that are unable to attend should inform the Secretariat or nominate someone else to take their place.
3. Can anyone attend? Is it only restricted to Malaysians? What about men.
The Summit welcomes all who have an interest in contributing to positive developments in the Malaysian workplace. As women naturally tend to become centres of care for families and communities, policies that better support women will undoubtedly benefit the nation. With these objectives, male participants are most welcome; as are non-Malaysian residents. Participants should however be adults above the age of 18.
4. Can I tell my friends to come?
Absolutely. Please take the opportunity to publicise the Summit to anyone who might be interested and would benefit from it.
5. What if they are not working at the moment?
The Summit welcomes women at all stages of the work-life-cycle, including those that have stepped out of workforce for a time, or participate in informal work in order to meet parenting demands. Your input is important to our deliberations.
6. Is there a dress code?
The dress code is smart business attire.
7. How do I find the Sime Darby Convention Centre?
A location map may be found here.
8. I am vegetarian. Will I be catered for?
We generally do our best to accommodate most food preferences and ensure that there are a number of non-meat choices at lunches and breaks. Please make a note of any food restrictions when you register.
9. Where do I park?
There is ample free parking at the Sime Darby Convention Centre. There is multi-level covered parking as well as open air parking close to the Main Lobby. Be warned however that it can become very full on Summit days and latecomers often have to park along the road. Where possible, we encourage you to take public transport or car pool with other participants.
